Summer Immersion Seminar offered by the NSAHC “Working People and the Struggle for the American Dream” Led by Dr. Leon Fink. This three day immersion seminar will feature Dr. Leon Fink, Professor of History at UIC, noted Labor historian, researcher and author. This seminar will allow participants to explore labor and work-related themes that have shaped American Labor struggles and achievements. The central focus will be on social, political and legal aspects of the labor movement. Particular emphasis will be placed on Chicago and a bus tour on the second day of the seminar of Chicago’s labor-related sites. The immersion format allows for two days at the Newberry Library, bus tour of sites, readings and analysis of historical sources from the Newberry collection and a final day at Palatine High School to pull the experience together for classroom lesson plans. The third day hands on work session will be led by a Master Teacher and Doctoral Candidate from UIC.programs! Dates: June 14-15-16 Where: 14-15 Meet at Newberry Library; 16 at Palatine High School Summer Immersion Seminar offered by the National Council of History Education The Great Depression and the New Deal This three day immersion seminar will feature Research Professor of History and International Affairs Dr. Allida Black from George Washington University. Professor Black is an author, teacher and historian of American history as well as an author of five books covering letters and memoirs of American first ladies, including extensive research on Eleanor Roosevelt. SheRegistration is the Editor and Project Director for the Eleanor Roosevelt Papers. The NCHE colloquium will feature a three person leadership team composed of Professor Black; a specialist in History Education; and a Master Classroom History teacher and Gilda Lernerstill presenteropen Lucinda Evans. Participants will be introduced to recent scholarship, primary sources and instructional techniques appropriately used for classroom instruction.
